Stoma Care

This program is delivered by AHPRA Registered Nurses.

Developed for support workers providing assistance to people who have Stoma Care needs.

QHA is a registered NDIS provider. Check that your high intensity provider is NDIS registered.

This program applies to various types of stomas such as ileostomy and colostomy.

Course outcomes:

  • Follow personal hygiene and infection control procedures
  • Replace and dispose of bags as required
  • Maintain chart/records
  • Monitor skin condition and keep stoma area clean
  • Recognise and respond or report problems such as deteriorating health or infection to appropriate health practitioner
  • The role of the RN
  • Basic anatomical knowledge of the eliminatory system
  • Skin and stoma care
  • Equipment and related functions
  • Procedures for safe positioning and monitoring
  • Common risks and indicators of malfunction and understanding when to involve a health practitioner

The above is delivered and assessed through online content and clinical skills workshop.

This program is benchmarked against the NDIS skill descriptors and practice standards. Fun and engaging, this program ensures staff members complete the program with the knowledge and foundational skills to support clients according to the NDIS skill descriptors and practice standards.

Online theory followed by practical workshops at our Gold Coast Laboratory. Our Clinical Nurse Educators are also able to travel to Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, Redlands, Cairns, Townsville, and anywhere in Queensland.
